  • Please contact the Gretna Post Office for new mail delivery at 332-2726. Please do not erect a mailbox before contacting the Post Office.
  • Senior Citizen's Center Activities: Call 332-4100, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., to find out what activities will take place on Fridays.
  • MOMS Club, Moms Offering Moms Support. If interested, call Lori Davis Russell at 332-3322.
  • The 2009 Membership Directory and Buyer Guide's are now available at the Gretna Guide & News office at 620 N. Hwy. 6.
  • Registration is open now for the adult summer reading program at the library. The program begins Tuesday, June 9 at 6:30 and will meet every Tuesday until Tuesday, July 21.
  • The Gretna Chamber Ambassador's for the adult summer reading program at the library. The program begins Tuesday, June 9 at 6:30 and will meet every Tuesday
  • The Gretna Chamber Ambassador's Committee will be organizing this year's Gretna Day's parade. For parade information and registration participants can go to www.gretnachamber.com, click on Gretna Days, then click on the Gretna Days Calendar, click on Gretna Days Parade and then you can download the Registration Form. Contact the Gretna Chamber at 332-3535 for further information or questions.
  • Senior Graduation Pictures are now available for pick-up at Gretna High School. Please contact the school to check hours of availability, 332-3936.
  • The Gretna Area Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for the 2009 Citizen of the Year award. Nominations can be sent to the chamber via PO Box 431 or info@gretnachamber.com. A nomination should include a short letter outlining his or her involvement and why you think the individual should be Citizen of the Year.
  • 2004 GHS graduates must pick up their permanent files from the GHS guidance office before they are discarded. If inconvenient, the graduate may call the GHS office at 332-3936 with permission to release their files to their parent.
  • Donate Glassware to the Gretna Band Boosters who are now collecting glassware for their annual coin toss fundraiser during Gretna Days. If you have any glass mugs, cups, plates, bowls, dishes, or vases to donate, please call Connie at 916-9105 or Liz at 332-3507 for a pick up time. No donation is too big or too small!

 

Friday, July 3

  • The Gretna Guide & News office will be closed in observance of Independance Day. No changes to the normal ad deadlines, but Legal Notices must be submitted by Thursday, July 2, at noon in order to be included in the July 8 issue.

Tuesday, July 7

  • Family Fishing Night at Zorinsky Lake at 6 p.m. Rods and reels, bait and fishing instruction will be available to participants. A 2009 Nebraska fishing license is required for anglers ages 16 or older. Future dates are: Aug. 4 at Walnut Creek Lake and Aug. 19 at Wehrspann Lake, both at 6 p.m.

Friday, July 10

  • The 4-H/Army Child and Youth Services are offering a free babysitting class at the Gretna Public Library from 10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. This course will develop the skills needed to be a caring, trustworthy, responsible, and competent babysitter. Register by phone and leave a message with your name, phone number, and email for Michele at (402)444-4638 or email mmyer2@unl.edu. You will need to bring a cold sack lunch that day.

Friday-Sunday, July 17-19

  • The Gretna Area Chamber of Commerce presents Gretna Days festivities. Fireworks and the Optimists BBQ on Friday; Parade, Street Dance, Tractor Pull, Watermelon feed and a full day of events around town Saturday; Car Show, Community Picnic, Train Rides and an Ice Cream Social planned for Sunday. Saturday, July 18

  • The Gretna Optimists are sponsoring the Kiddie Parade at 9:30 a.m. Registration begins at 9 a.m. in front of the Resurrection Lutheran Church on McKenna Ave. Categories are: Original; Patriotic; Decorated bikes; T.V., movies and storybook.   • The Gretna Legion will be serving lunch following the Gretna Days Parade. Lunch will be served at the Gretna American Legion.

Monday, July 20

  • The American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor a Blood Drive at Resurrection Lutheran Church from 1-6 p.m. Please contact Kathy Iske with questions: 332-3827.

Monday-Friday, July 20-24

  • The Gretna High School Speech team will be holding a speech camp from 9 a.m. until noon at the high school for anyone entering grades 9-12 interested in joining the speech team. Email Coach Long with questions: jelong@esu3.org

Monday-Friday, July 27-31

  • Gretna High School will be holding a summer football clinic from 7:50 a.m. - 11 a.m. for all players entering grades 9-12. Attendance is strongly encouraged.Helmets and mouth pieces are required. Contact Coach Jepsen at 332-3936 (school) or 250-1131 (home) with any questions.

Wednesday, July 29 - Sunday, August 2

  • Mark your calendars for the Sarpy County Fair. Events are held in Springfield at the County Fairgrounds. Tractor pulls on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday; Rodeos on Friday and Saturday; Demolition Derby on Sunday; and static displays all weekend.
